Privacy Policy for the SnapAI Chrome Extension

1. Overview

  • SnapAI respects your privacy and collects as little as possible.
  • Your data stays on your device.
  • No third-party tracking beyond the AI API calls you trigger yourself.

2. Data we collect

  • Google API keys — stored locally on your device.
  • Extension settings and preferences.
  • Usage statistics — only if you opt in.
  • Webpage content — only when you explicitly send it.
  • Screenshots — only when you explicitly capture them.

3. Where your data goes

  • API keys: local browser storage only.
  • Content and screenshots: sent only to the AI service you select, such as Google Gemini.
  • We do not store, back up, or collect this data on our servers.
  • We have no access to your API keys or your captures — communication is direct from you to the AI service.

4. Data you control

  • Delete stored settings at any time.
  • Change your API key at any time.
  • Uninstall the extension at any time — all local data goes with it.

5. Third-party services

  • Google Generative Language API, required for Gemini. Your key and content are sent directly to Google and are subject to Google's privacy policy.
  • Any other AI service you configure receives your data directly from your browser.

6. Data security

  • API keys are kept in browser-managed encrypted storage.
  • All API communication uses HTTPS.
  • No insecure transmission of your data.
  • Extension permissions are limited to what is necessary.

7. Permissions explained

  • storage — to save your API key locally.
  • activeTab — to access the current webpage for content capture.
  • scripting — to inject the content capture script.
  • clipboardWrite — to copy results to your clipboard.

8. GDPR & privacy rights

  • No tracking pixels and no analytics unless you enable them.
  • No cookies are used.
  • No data sharing with advertisers.
  • You own all your data. Right to delete: uninstall the extension. Right to access: everything is stored locally on your device.

9. Changes to this policy

  • We may update this policy; updates are posted here with a date.
  • Significant changes will be notified to users.
  • Continued use of the extension means acceptance of the current policy.
